Best accommodation in Copenhagen

Copenhagen, the pearl of Scandinavia, is arguably one of the best cities to live in the world (it has my vote at least!). That is when you have a Danish salary. As a tourist it is not a cheap destination and this is more evident when searching for accommodation in Copenhagen. That being said there are still options:

1. Free

Yes, you heard it. You can stay for free in Copenhagen! That is if you use Coachsurfing. You probably hear of this but, in case you didn’t, this site allows you to find people that is willing to let you sleep in their couch for free! Although common courtesy is to cook dinner for them and, let’s face it, try not to stay on their couch for a week. This option is becoming more and more popular by the day, and Copenhagen is one of the friendliest and safest places to do it!

Couchsurfing is a great alternative to hotels and will reduce the budget of your trip

2. Budget

There are a few accommodations that we could list as “budget”, even though it will make you laugh if you have paid actual “budget” in Southeast Asia, for example. An option is Danhostel, one of the cheapest places out there (starting at 200 DKK or 27€) and of great quality: simple and functional, and close to the center. Other options, more young and dynamic but also more expensive, are Generator Copenhagen and Copenhagen Downtown Hostel, at 300 DKK (41€) and 400 DKK (53€) respectively.

3. Flashpacker

Strangely, the options I list as Flashpacker here are actually cheaper than some of the budget ones. I just list them here because of their quality and taste. My go to hostel in Copenhagen is Urban House, very central and affordable with great facilities and friendly staff. A new addition to the list is Steel House Copenhagen, with very competitive prices and self-described as a “luxury” hostel. I have never stayed there, but I’ve heard wonderful things about it, so check it out. Both start at around 270 DKK (35€).

Urban House is everything that Copenhagen is: hipster, ecologic, stylish and very Danish!

4. Mid-range

Denmark is not a place for mid-range hotels. They are usually old and expensive, with not so great facilities. However, things are starting to change and an example is Axel Guldsmeden. I have stayed several times in this eco-friendly hotel and I can only say good things! The design is beautiful, th beds are really comfortable and the breakfast jaw-dropping. Rooms start around 1000 DKK (134 €). There are other hotels of the Guldsmeden chain spread around the city, like Babette, Carlton or Manon Les Suites, the last one being more luxurious.

Axel Guldsmeden is designed with taste and very friendly (and ecologic!)

5. Luxury

There are plenty of luxury hotels in Copenhagen, but perhaps the most famous is Hotel d’Angleterre, extremely central, popular with celebrities and with a Michelin-star restaurant. Other options are the Nimb Hotel, located inside of Tivoli Gardens, the worldwide famous Marriott, or the tasteful Sanders. If you want luxury for cheaper, worry not! Try out Hotel SKT. PETRI, designed with extreme taste but with a more laid back atmosphere, or go a bit away from the center in the AC Hotel Bella Sky Copenhagen, in one of Denmarks most famous buildings.

AC Hotel Bella Sky Copenhagen is one of its most recognizable buildings and a great stay if you want something quieter than the city center

Closing statement
